PARIS! So Shelly and I arrived in London on the 28th and had fish and chips and beers. Then slept and woke up bright and early to go to Paris. We went via Eurostar, which goes from Waterloo Station in London to the Gare du Nord in Paris. It's a total ripoff! It cost like $150 roundtrip and they don't give you food. :( There is a dining car where you can buy food.
Shelly in the dining car.
We were pretty exhausted after all the flying and traveling so we lounged around and slept for most of the first day. The apartment we rented was great. It's a tiny little studio in the Marais area in the 3rd district of Paris. The street had all these little shops and brasseries and cafes. The only problem was that it was a 3rd floor walk up (4th floor in the American sense since in Europe, the first floor is the ground floor) and the stairs were horrendous. Especially since Shelly's a Socal surburbanite that can't walk.
The next day, we took a long walk around Paris to the Notre Dame Cathedral. We ate at this rip-off tourist trap restaurant along the Seine River where the waiters were really rude! Yay! We are in France. I was scared to even ask for ketchup. The French in the South of France are really nice, but Parisians are bitchy. I think it has to do with the weather. It's REALLY cold here.
We stopped in front of the Lourve, but we'll be back here to go inside later.
Here's Shelly by the Seine River.
Here's a homeless guy we saw sleeping on the steps on the way to Notre Dame. We found it ironic he was sleeping under the building that reads "Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite."
Here's me and Shelly at Notre Dame. We did not see Quasimoto. :( (Why won't my bloody vertical pictures come out properly on the blogger?)
That night we went to Kong Bar which is some trendy Parisian wannabe Asian cuisine restaurant. It's the restaurant where Carrie meets Alexsandr's ex-wife in the last episode of Sex and the City. It's above the Kenzo building and across the street from the LV corporate building and it overlooks the Seine. Carrie says "this is a lovely restaurant" and the Parisian says "It used to be. Not so much anymore. The chairs...they're hiddeous!" Yeah, the chairs are kind of hiddeous. Now I've gone to Sex and the City places in all 3 cities the TV show goes to: New York (Sushi Samba, Cafeteria), Los Angeles (Saddle Ranch, The Standard), and Paris!
Me at Kong.
We drank some at Kong and then got sick of the scene so we decided to go to a discotheque. We asked around and ended up at Cab. It was pretty cool. The craziest part was that they played hip-hop for a good 30 minutes or so! French don't usually play hip-hop in clubs.
Me and Shelly at Cab.
Some guy who tried to kiss Shelly.
And viola! that was our first day! More later.
